Junction Design Crawl

Sunday 31 July 2011

Come one, come all to the very first Junction Design Crawl! This Friday from 7:00 - 11:00 pm, local businesses will string up white lights to guide visitors to special events, music, art projects, pop-up sales, and good eats happening inside their shops.

I'm particularly excited for Icelandic hotdogs from Mjolk: steam cooked in beer with specialty mustard, remoulade mayo, ketchup and frizzled onions! They'll be served from 7 pm until they're gone, so snap them up quick :) And if you're too late to the party, Zocalo cafe just up the block is always a surefire bet.

See you in the Junction!

Tea Towel Thursday

Thursday 21 July 2011

Cute 'kitchen shelves' tea towel from modern design & paper shop, Lagom. The primary colour scheme would be super cheerful in the kitchen and I wouldn't mind owning that entire top shelf in real life :) Screen printed in Solvesborg, Sweden.

Dog Day Afternoon

Monday 18 July 2011

Although my love for pups rarely extends beyond pugs, I must make a notable exception for Monsieur Boudin, the "stylish little dashchund from Paris."

You see, we share an affinity for the finer things in life: patisseries, shopping, dining, fine art and zipping around the City of Lights on a scooter.

These bright and lively greeting cards comes courtesy of Lab Partners and also impart the perfect piece of cheeky humour into all of our correspondences.

After all, isn't life lived to be enjoyed? Mais oui!

Vogue Nippon Beauty: Freja

Friday 15 July 2011

Something so unexpected and lovely about these images of Freja in this month's Vogue Nippon Beauty. Her disgruntled expressions are a stark contrast to the flawless makeup and beachy Puerto Rican backdrop, but I think it's what makes this editorial worth a second look.

I'm also completely in love the blue top with a brown leather strap detail in the third shot <3

Dear Photograph

Tuesday 12 July 2011

Dear Photograph,
Thank you for everything we had.
@johnathanstampf

One part nostalgia, one part communal participation, and one part completely genius. Dear Photograph reminds me of A Softer World in a good way :)

The perfect outfit: classic but modern blue on blue stripes, a splash of hot pink, tousled wavy hair, small accessories, chic leather belt, and large soft clutch. I could dress like this everyday :)

Kinfolk Magazine

Tuesday 5 July 2011

Stealing a moment away from writing my crowdfunding article to share this breathtakingly beautiful video I came across on the {frolic!} blog.

Promoting a new website centred on the intimate allure of small gatherings, Kinfolk weaves together a communal love for sharing delicious food and unhurried conversation in simple surroundings.

It's worth mentioning that the geniuses behind this imaginative glimpse into Kinfolk is a Washington based new media production company called VsTheBrain. More lovely and elegant visual offerings from them can be found here.

And before you fall over from swooning, I want to make sure you mark your calendars for July 15 when Kinfolk Magazine officially launches online!

Until then, wait with me with bated breath over at the Kinfolk journal, where this growing community of artists will be sharing some inspirations that honor the rituals of everyday life.

Fellini: Spectacular Obsessions

Friday 1 July 2011

Don't. Freak. Out. But the master of Italian cinema, Federico Fellini, is the subject of the next big exhibition at the TIFF Bell Lightbox!

Visual Art
Curated by Sam Stourdze and produced by NBC Photography, the exhibition will feature 400+ works that "explore the obsessions that recur throughout his films and life" and no doubt informs the iconography that we admire and still long for so much today.

Dream Double Bills
What would an exhibit on Fellini be without some moving pictures? TIFF invited nine filmmakers, critics, and programmers to slate a series of double bills that pair a Fellini film with another work that complements, contrasts, or inspires a conversation with it.

Incorporating picks from Atom Egoyan, Isabella Rossellini, Deepa Mehta, the film programme also has the added thrill of having Guillermo Del Toro introducing James Schamus' selections on July 2!

Masterworks of Italian Neorealism
A retrospective of classic and rare films by Roberto Rossellini, Vittorio De Sica, Luchino Visconti and Pier Paolo Pasolini. If you're new to the movement, I highly recommend starting with De Sica's definitive "Bicycle Thieves"and plunging forward from there.

Clearly, it's an exciting summer to be a film lover in Toronto! What are you most excited to see? :)
